Abstract
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is an acclaimed Nigerian writer. She earned a master’s degree in creative writing at Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in African Studies at Yale University. Her debut novel, "Purple Hibiscus," was published in 2003 and won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book. The Class of 2009 read "Purple Hibiscus" as their Summer Common Reading book during the summer of 2005 just before their entry into Kalamazoo college.
