1992 Commencement Speech

Abstract

Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole (1936- ) graduated from Oberlin College with a bachelor's degree sociology in 1957. At Northwestern University she earned her masters degree in 1959 and Ph.D. in 1967, both in anthropology. Dr. Cole received honorary degrees from Bates College in 1989, Mount Holyoke College in 1998, Mills College in 1999, Howard University in 2009. Dr. Cole was the first African American female president of Spelman College (1987-1997) and was president of Bennett College from 2002 to 2007.
