dc.description.abstractRev. Samuel McCrea Cavert earned his bachelor's degree from Union College in 1910, his master's degree at Columbia University in 1914, and his B.D. degree at Union Theological Seminary, New York, in 1915. He was ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church in 1915. He was conferred two Doctor of Divinity degrees, one from Lawrence University in 1928, and the other from Union College in 1935. In 1918 he became Assistant Secretary, General War-Time Commission of Churches, and he served as Chaplain in the United States Army during World War I. Cavert was General Secretary to the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America from 1950 to 1954.
