Growth rates of multiple strains of Microcystis aeruginosa across a nutrient gradient
Abstract
Microcystis aeruginosa (M. aeruginosa) a toxic blue-green algae was grown along a phosphorus gradient. This cyanobacterium which is spreading as a result of climate change is harmful to ecosystems which it is dominating and poses a threat to humans and animals. Long-term projects have been undertaken to study M.aeruginosa and it’s virility. By growing M.aeruginosa along a nutrient gradient it could be possible to use the models obtained to learn more about how this organism interacts with its environment and possibly predict blooms.
