    Abstract
The Danforth Study was a one-year institutional self-study undertaken by Kalamazoo College in the mid-1960s, following a workshop at Colorado College in 1966. The Study was funded by a grant from the Danforth Foundation. Directors were John W. Hollenbach (external) and Jean Calloway (internal). From Hollenbach's final report: "This report will first attempt to summarize and appraise the work of the Danforth task forces as they attacked the question of an appraisal of the Kalamazoo plan. Then it will seek to make some very tentative judgements answering the key question ofthe Danforth Study proper. Finally it will summarize the recommendations that are embedded in the report pointing toward the next steps that might be taken by the college." From Calloway's report: "What did we originally hope to accomplish in this year long study? Following the direction given by the Colorado Workshop Team we decided to focus the study on trying to evaluate the success of the Kalamazoo Program in promoting growth in the areas of breadth, depth, personal development, and basic skills - the four goals of a liberal arts college as identified by the Colorado group and subsequently endorsed by the larger September Kalamazoo College Workshop group." The report as a whole is large and complex. A brief Table of Contents is as follows: Part I-Reports of the Directors; Part II-Reports of the Task Forces; Part III-Summaries and Reports on Questionnaires; Part IV-Summaries and Reports on Tests Administered; Appendices.
