Democratic Politics in the Era of Globalization
Abstract
This paper looks at the connections between political legitimacy gained through the voice of the people and the current development trends in globalization. Using Burma as a case study, there is an analysis of how the marginalization of certain groups, in this case ethnic groups, affects political stability. In the global analysis, there is a critique of current methods of globalization, particularly in Argentina and Afghanistan, because of the trend to prioritize economic rights over political rights. In relation to sustainability, the argument is that democracy is a necessary precusor of sustainable development.
