Maangiy Goorgoorlu ak Garaab yi: A Woodworker's Perspective on the Multi-Faceted Art of Dakar

Abstract

For my Integrative Cultural Research Project, I apprenticed a local woodcarver in Dakar and performed a research-based critique of the various depictions of art found throughout the city. I was able to complete my own piece with my teacher, Séa Diallo, at the Village of Arts in Grand-Yoff. In spending a lot of time with Séa, I learned of the deep-rooted African traditions of art and of life in all its glory.
