    Introduction
Languages have always fascinated me, as a young child growing up in rural Vermont I used to ask my neighbor, Edwin Nelson, to tell me stories just to hear the sound of his gurgly, almost unintelligible manner of speech. As I have grown older, my interests in speech have grown as well, and I have become intrigued by the efforts of a number of writers who work to capture the beauty and magic of rural dialects within ~'_" the framework of contemporary wr i tten language. Perhaps nowhere in the world have artists, musicians, and writers turned to popular culture as a medium of expression as they have in nineteenth and twentieth century Spain; two concrete examples being Segovia's introduction of the guitar, a folk instrument, into the realm of classical music, and Garcia Lorca's renaissance of the Romance, with his collection, El Romancero Gitano.

    (1996) Orr, Bret
This project was a forced necessity. Far from being a portion of Spanish, Extremefio, or Cacereiio culture, the opportunity to play tennis that was presented to me prevented me from satisfactorily completing another ICRP. The project that truly fascinated me was the creation ofa legend for the arc that lies on the outskirts oftown by the subdevelopments around the tennis club that would have been based historically on infonnation gathered on Spain during the French occupation and subsequent revolution. Unfortunately, I lacked the necessary amount of creativity considering the limited amount of time. The result is an embarassing attempt to justify spending time in leisure activities as a worthwhile cultural investigation.

    Proyecto integrado de cultura
    (2001-01-31) Batizy, Rachel
As a self developed ICRP, my proyect was structured around my needs of a minum required number of hours to enter veterinary school. I attented the veterinary clinic at the vet school one day a week. The hours depended on what kind of activities were taking place that day. Some days I attended one hour, other days four hours. I went and observed surguries and proceedures ofthe clinic. I was able to help occasionally with minor necessities, but for the most part I simply observed. I was required to buy a white lab coat so that I would fit in with the other students, and except for my lack of knowledge of four year veterinary medicine I was treated like a student.

    Sergio's Peluqueria
    (2000) Emami, Lisa; Montes, Rosa
During my project, To served the activities at Sergio's Peluquerfa, a Spanish hair-salon. My methodology mainly included two information-gathering techniques: formal interviews and informal conversations. Alongside consistent journaling and regular meetings with my project coordinator, these methods proved effective in the development of my research. My role at this placement was that of observing, where I tried to capture rich, relevent, descriptive details of the site's routine. The main activity at Sergio's Peluquerfo is to provide services including: cut color, highlighting, permanents, style, make-up, and manicure. Specifically, I focused on three aspects of this business, including advertisement, atmosphere, and clientele-stylist relationship. Upon termination of research, I made generalizations about the Spanish life-style and people. Firstly, I concluded that Spanish people, in general, are very sociable and outgoing. Then, that the pace of life in this country is more relaxed and less stressful. And finally, that the role of women had changed.

(2001-01-31) Aronson, Jill M.; Montes, Rosa
