Abstract
Cyclohexene was functionalized with saccharin through the assistance of a copper (II) catalyst. The copper catalyst was complexed with various ligands to ascertain infonnation on the effects of each on the reaction. Throughout the experiment, it was discovered that the copper catalyst plays the most integral role in the reaction: the turnover rate of the catalyst is responsible for the rate of the reaction, thus leading to believe the reaction behaves in a pseudo-zeroth order. It was also identified that without the catalyst the reaction does not proceed to any substantial degree. Therefore, the catalyst is essential for the completion of the reaction. Stereochemistry was induced to a small degree although no notable results occurred.
