On Dr. Richard U. Light's tenth anniversary as a Trustee of Kalamazoo College in 1963, students who had participated in the first years of the Study Abroad program were invited to write letters to him. These letters, which were bound into a gift volume for Dr. Light, express students' gratitude Dr. Light and his family's creation and funding of the program, and relate many personal stories both during and after their study abroad experiences. The students were often referred to as "Light Scholars" because Dr. Light is considered the founder of the study abroad program. There are over 50 letters in the collection. Most of the letters were transcribed from poor photocopies; many have typographical errors.en
