A Casein Kinase 1 Epsilon Single Nucleotide Polymorphism and Acute Response to Caffeine in Humans
Abstract
•Recently, mouse studies identified a quantitative trait locus (QTL) on
chromosome 15 containing the (mouse) Csnk1e gene that has been
linked to cocaine and methamphetamine sensitivity (Jones et al.,
1999; Palmer et al., 2005).
•Veenstra-VanderWeele and colleagues investigated three single
nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the CSNK1E gene. One of these
SNPs, rs135745, was significantly correlated to heightened sensitivity
to the subjective effects of d-amphetamine (Veenstra-VanderWeele et
al., 2006).
•The SNP rs135745 flanks the CSNK1E gene on chromosome 22 in a
noncoding region 3 kb 3’ of the 3’-UTR of CSNK1E. It likely does not
directly influence drug sensitivity, but instead serves as a molecular
marker that associates with some mutation that may affect CSNK1E
activity
