The theories of social constructionism posited by Thomas Berger and Peter Luckmann in The Social Construction of Reality are a tremendously powerful way of seeing and understanding the world around us. Not only do they explain reality itself, but they can be used to make sense of the paradigmatic shifts that have occurred over the course of time. The analytical tools proposed by Berger and Luckmann were used here to conduct a critical examination of the gay rights movement and to determine whether or not the movement has attained its goals.
