Rather than adopting a deep philosophical definition which seeks to explain the peculiar nature of religion in categorical or escatological terms, this paper restricts itself to a simple viewing of the symbols which mold man's moods, motives, and feelings into beliefs about the general order of existence. Concerned primarily with the political manifestations of such a Weltanschauung, the main focus here is on those rituals and practices which surround religion with an aura of factuality and give it strength. If you are not a current K College student, faculty, or staff member, email firstname.lastname@example.org to request access to this SIP.
