Episodic Cache : DIY Stop Motion Animation
Abstract
This Senior Individualized Project (SIP) narrative document contains an explanation of the artistic procedures of the artist, Ella Faris, during the process of making a stop motion animation with filmed and photographed components. A significant part of the project was self-teaching of digital animation by the artist, without prior experience to reflect aspects of DIY culture. Ella explored a few different methods of stop motion animation in their project. Conceptually, the work symbolizes the artist’s personal experience with memory and trauma processing, with an emphasis on nostalgia. The process of self-teaching was incredibly valuable to the artist, as they continue to practice and learn digital art after their time at Kalamazoo College.
