Comparison of VIIRS Active Fire Data and Sentinel–2 Data for Mapping Agricultural Burning in Kenya
Abstract
Rationale: FAO reported increased greenhouse gas emissions from crop residue burning. Remote sensing techniques can be used to identify locations of fires, in real time and within satellite imagery. Kenya has minimal data for tracking agricultural burning.
Project Goals: Use remote sensing techniques to identify fire locations. Are there burn scars in Sentinel–2 imagery? Is analyzing Sentinel–2 imagery an effective method for mapping agricultural burn scars compared to VIIRS data?
