Exploring Strategies for Enhancing Electronic Health Records and Reducing Disparities in Healthcare Delivery
Abstract
Introduction: Electronic health records (EHR) are integral to patient- physician communication. EHR systems facilitate electronic exchange of patient health information and capture medical history.
Problem: Communication is a persistent barrier in healthcare settings, particularly for minority patients. EHR systems do not account for patient preferences, values, and beliefs. This creates a disconnect between patients and providers, leading to patient dissatisfaction with the quality and consistency of care.
Objective: Explore strategies to standardize and improve EHR systems to reduce patient-provider discordance and improve care for all patients.
