Largo Desolato

Abstract

Includes program and flyer for the Festival Playhouse production of Largo Desolato, by Vaclav Havel. Directed by Kazimierz Braun and performed in the Dungeon Theatre from July 20-28 of 1990. Kazimierz Braun—"one of Poland's leading directors," according to a college press release announcing the production—directed the play. Additionally, its writer, Vaclav Havel, was the then-president of Czechoslovakia. Havel was a major anti-communist voice in Czechoslovakia before serving as the first and only president of a non-communist Czechoslovakia, and then as the first president of the Czech Republic. He rose to prominence as a playwright, and Largo Desolato was written in 1984, five years before he assumed the presidency.
