Myatt Kyau is pictured in the traditional dress of Burma (now Myanmar): a turban, cotton shirt, longyi, and slippers. He sits on the floor cross-legged with an opened umbrella laying behind him. Kyau studied at Kalamazoo College in the 1870s, receiving financial aid from Michigan Baptist.
