A news brief in the February 24, 1939 issue of The Index described Okami as a "Japanese transfer student from Stanford... has been in this country for 11 months... born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, and graduated from Rikkgo University there where he leamed English... holds the inter collegiate ski racing record of Yosemite National Park... expert on jui jitsu... plans to enter business upon returning to Japan."
