Abstract
This study analyzes the various changes that have occurred in regard to sexual discourse and sexuality education in America over the past fifty years. The main changes occurred through political and social organizations and the school system and how these two mediums have also attempted to bring about a more open discourse within the family setting as well. These stand out as major initiators of change, but it was discoveries in the field of psychology that has brought education and consequently, sexual discourse to where it is today. In order for an open sexual discourse to be effective, educators must be aware of the cognitive limitations of their students.
