Self Portrait and Self Presentation : Exploring the Shape of Inner Self
Abstract
Self Portrait and Self Presentation concentred on Eastern and Western cultural blending and sojourner identity exploration, exploring the possibility of expressing the Eastern culture and artistic features by oil painting. My work focuses on finding the balance between Western and Eastern cultures that I experienced. This project will explore deep Eastern cultural connotations in oil painting of western artistic creations while exploring inner definition's change and development. My work content includes exploring the subject matter, composition, color, and techniques of Chinese painting, and combining them organically through the artistic medium of oil by painting landscapes, flowers, and birds as a frame that expresses childhood memories or subconscious feelings. Instead of simply painting some Chinese things and traditions, I dig deeper into the way of painting by combining my Eastern experience with western art media. Self Portrait and Self Presentation began with practice with different materials and ways to express Chinese paintings and culminated in a series of oil paintings. I would outline my research, inspiration, process, difficulties, reflections, and challenges that influenced and shaped my project.
