Abstract
Bonding between infants and caregivers is crucial in developing the regions in the brain. The brain stem has modular neurons that are influenced by experience, and these modular neurons can define temperament, which will shape behavioral development (Hart). Attachments formed with caregivers’ help provide emotional resources for children, as well as improved learning and memory skills. Children who spend extended time in daycare facilities may miss out on bonding opportunities; programs that emphasize consistent interactions between children and volunteers may promote the brain development associated with bonding that these children need for optimal brain development.
