The US has provided scarce resources to combat mental health in the past, but with the impact of the pandemic and other external factors, the population of people needing those resources are increasing expediential, especially in criminal court systems. With no solution to decrease the rate of repetitive offenders in sight, multiple court judges have decided to look beyond the classical punishment (incarnation) and implement alternative diversion plans to combat this issue. As of 2008, Kalamazoo County has established their own mental health recovery court. The Kalamazoo MHRC aims to reduce recidivism in the Kalamazoo community.
