Abstract
This project explores contemporary interpersonal and practical effects of smartphone usage in order to gauge the rapid evolution of society and culture under the pervasive influence of technology. Academic sources containing various theories regarding the social and practical implications of societies overrun by commodities are applied as framework for, and derive new meaning from, the general trends and causal relationships in the data collected. Fieldwork consists of both survey and interview methods conducted with smartphone users, whose experiences provide comprehensive data and invoke analyses regarding people’s increasingly nuanced ways of acting, interacting, and thinking.
