Abstract
I am a biology student with a particular interest in ecology and conservation. Because of this, I have spent a lot of time thinking about the state of the world; the state of its species. We are in the midst of a mass extinction. I think that it is easy to think about that and become completely devoid of hope. The world is in a troubling state, and it is going to be hard to do anything about it. It will take mass, worldwide change, and a lot of sacrifice. But before that can happen, people need to care. We need to care outside of the scope of utilitarianism. We should care about other species because we share this space with them, and they don't deserve to lose it because of us. The most important connection between us is that we're here together. How amazing it is that we get to be here together? That's where I'm coming from with these pieces. I wanted to represent our togetherness and our connection in a weird, super literal way, by creating these chimeras of humans and other species.
