Small Business Marketing in the Face of Limited Resources

The Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Kalamazoo College is part of a nationwide network of centers that provides business consulting, training, research and advocacy to entrepreneurs either in the start-up phases of opening a business, or for already existing businesses. My internship at the SBDC gave me firsthand experience and insight into how to market a small business with The reality of starting a small business is that four out of every five small businesses will fail in their first year of existence. A large portion of this failure is due to unrealistic or unclear marketing ideas and plans. Small business owners must be conscious of the fact that time and budget restraints are the main characteristics that set their marketing strategy apart from that of a large business. It is important for small business owners to look at marketing as an investment in their business. By marketing to a very target audience, small business owners can make the most of their time and resources and can turn their new business into a successful enterprise.
