Drawing Conclusions: Development of Western Society Through Medical Illustration

Abstract

My research examines the arc of medical illustration through history, specifically how it is embedded in the fabric of our social world. With a specific focus on medical philosophy through art, I explore the changing social ideologies of different time periods. Drawing from illustrations, exhibitions, and the work of contemporary artists, I argue that through modern medicine’s interactions with fine art, the blending of theses two worlds helps us to understand the human psyche.
