Search for Significant Biomarkers Associated with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) in Patients Enrolled into Phase III Clinical Trial
Abstract
Cardiac induced AKI is the rapid degeneration of kidney
function within days or weeks of cardiac surgery and
consequently leads to a buildup of waste products, fluids, and
electrolyte imbalances. Among patients who undergo cardiac
surgery, up to 30% will develop AKI (Rosner & Okusa,
2006). Currently there are no effective therapies for the
prevention or treatment of AKI.
