The purpose of this review of the goal setting literature was to gain a better understanding of how to set goals effectively with NCAA division III men’s tennis players. In particular, three obstacles to the goal setting process were identified: the lack of a common understanding between the players and the coach regarding the players’ biggest weaknesses, the players’ unwillingness to share information about their weaknesses with teammates, and the limited amount of time the coach and players had available to meet to discuss their progress.
