The audio entertainment industry has endured many decades and challenges to become a mainstay as one of the most popular forms of entertainment globally. Listening to music has been a tradition for so long that its origins would be challenging to pinpoint. However, over the years the ways in which people enjoy music has changed drastically. Since the creation of records, cassettes, COs, terrestrial radio, satellite radio, music downloads, and now music streaming, there has always been a constant evolution in the ways music is consumed. The aim of this paper is to compare the business models of two top competitors in the audio entertainment market, SiriusXM and Spotify. These two companies represent two different mediums that are enduring today; music streaming and radio. SiriusXM represents the longstanding staple of the music industry; radio broadcasting. Spotify represents the new imposition on the audio entertainment market that is music streaming. Ultimately, this paper hopes to uncover, through the quantitative and qualitative aspects of each business, which company is better positioned for future growth in the audio entertainment market. Beginning with a review of the existing literature on the subject, as well as salient points that will affect the analysis of each company on a comparative basis, the companies will be put head to head relying on financial statement analysis, the qualitative aspects of their business models, and will culminate in a final valuation of the two companies. This paper will explore which company has more potential to solidify itself as a top performer in the audio entertainment market through continued growth.en_US
