At the beginning of this project I'll start with a description of the historical background information about Germany with a focus on women and their role over time, as well as an analysis of how their role was used and instrumentalized within the framework of society. I especially focus on the events during and shortly after World War II, as women attempted to return to their former traditional roles. The first part analyzes various books that illustrate the role of women. Then I present how the role of women today is internalized, both by women themselves and by society. I examine various political changes as well as the growing significance of the family within the German culture. The second part analyzes the sociological and psychological expectations that society imposes on them. An important message that I want to convey through my writing is that today's structures and conditions are influenced by the past. Through a collection of personal stories and experiences, In the third part, I use data from the university's gender and diversity office to support statements. I also conducted interviews with students. Through the examination of the culture of this university I want to prove and explain how historical conditional mindsets directly related to the challenges facing German women that prevent them from flourishing in the professional world.
