Abstract
In this work I look at German-American city partnerships. These partnerships encourage populations on both sides of the Atlantic to remember personal relationships and friendships, even when national-level politics are tense. Participation in partnership activities –- civic trips, joint projects, fundraising campaigns, etc. or maintaining the relationships established through city partnerships and friendships --show solidarity and friendship with people abroad.
