Abstract
A timed-meander survey was constructed among several of Grass River Natural Area’s northern fen habitats. These areas were accessed either through shallow-water kayaking or hiking along upland streams that connect into fen habitats. All discernable faunal and floral species were recorded, plotted and photographed. Bloom times of flowers were also recorded and added to a larger set of wildflower bloom chart data collected at Grass River Natural Area. Surveying data was used to assess overall wetland health and the presence and abundance of invasive species within fen environments. Several reptile boards and a trail camera were placed along survey routes, in order to allow for continued monitoring of habitat integrity of fen regions. One species, S. purpurea f. heterophylla (yellow pitcher plant), was observed along survey routes that has previously never been observed within Antrim County MI.
