Abstract
The author introduces her collection of original poems with a brief autobiographical essay. She writes “stress is something we encounter in life-- I think it's impossible to dodge. When I was younger, I let the slightest things upset me: why I wasn’t invited to a birthday party back in 5th grade, or what I was going to wear to school, and whether I’ll be made fun of or something stupid like, why aren’t my friends noticing my new hairstyle. Such little things would send my underaged mind into a frenzy. My mom always used to tell me I had to stop letting little things affect my mood. When I think back to moments like that, I remember who I am. When I was younger, you could not tell me that I would encounter much bigger problems than wondering why I wasn’t invited to a birthday party back in 5th grade, or what I was going to wear to school, and whether I’ll be made fun of or something stupid like, why isn’t my friends noticing my new hairstyle. Such little things would send my underaged mind into a frenzy. But I was still fresh to the world and naive. I was in my world. Sometimes these childhood memories make me feel nostalgic; I wish these were relevant stressors in my life right now…The poems that will come after are a reflection of the pain, grief, tragedy, and stress that I have either felt or is feeling now and it simply cannot be expressed narratively, but it’s better explained/depicted through poetry. Each poem can be interpreted in any form the reader may take it. There is no right or wrong answer. Each poem was thought through and holds significance to events from my life.”
