Abstract
This history documentation of food and farming justice at Kalamazoo College serves to understand where this work has taken the campus community over time in order to better engage with food justice and its complexities. Students, faculty, staff, and community partners need to know what has happened within this framework as context for thinking about where to take this movement in the future on campus.
Food justice is unique in that it intersects with many other social justice initiatives. However, within the history of food and farming organizations on K’s campus, the strong necessity for social justice within these groups’ actions was not always in sight. With the knowledge of this unintentionally yet still harmful history, food and farming justice orgs on campus evolved to be more conscious in their efforts and reflections.
Diving into the intricacies of this past functions a reminder that consistent and active support for social justice is inherent to comprehending the present work of food and farming student organizations on campus.
