BSO Members Protest at Banquet
Abstract
Two members of the Black Student Organization (BSO) stand at the podium during a banquet on campus. College president Weimer K. Hicks sits to the right of the podium. Members of the BSO sent a set of demands to the campus administration during the spring of 1969, including demands related to admissions and a Black Studies program. According to the "Demands Must Be Met" headline in the May 30, 1969 issue of The Index, "The demands originally presented to the administration of Kalamazoo College by the Black Student Organization on Monday, May 12 prompted a lengthy administration reply on Thursday, May 15. The BSO rejected the answer to the demands as inadequate and expressed this feeling during the Mother's Day Banquet in Welles Hall on Saturday, May 17." The two students pictured may be BSO co-chairmen Tom Seavers and Jerry Weaver.
