    Abstract
    James P. Cadman was a student at Kalamazoo College, initially studying in the Preparatory Department and then at the college level. He graduated in 1863 and then served in the cavalry during the Civil War. This diary, written between January and May of 1858, gives details of both his family life and student life. It also mentions his fellow students, recreational activities, the weather, and local shops in downtown Kalamazoo.
