Abstract
The student newspaper reported on events on campus in the days following a racist note and fire in a Black student’s dorm room. The First Year Forum would cover the topic of a “culture of silence.” A candlelight vigil was also planned. Student Commission opened its meeting to students to express their concerns and the commission also indicated an interest in bringing back the SafeWalk program to provide an escort for students walking alone at night. Safety on campus was an issue not only because of the racist note and fire, but because of an unknown individual entering the Umoja House, a living-learning house, on campus around the same time.
