Abstract
With the rise of CO2 levels in our atmosphere contributing towards global warming, it is becoming important to not only reduce emissions of CO2 but also to find ways to utilize the CO2 currently present in the atmosphere. C-H carboxylation is one way of doing so, especially transition metal catalyzed C-H carboxylation. It is a more atom and step efficient process compared to carboxylation reactions using Grignard and organolithium reagents which produce a lot of waste. However, this method is limited as a directing group is required. It was hypothesized that tridentate boryl ligand based-catalysts using palladium and ruthenium metal centers would be capable of overcoming these issues for C-H carboxylation. While the final carboxylation was unsuccessful there was promising results for future studies.
