R Shiny Application for Energy, Gas, and Water Consumption Data at Kalamazoo College
Abstract
Climate action plans are useful tools that help institutions reduce carbon emissions and support environmentally sustainable initiatives. An increasing prevalence of data collection, which is tidied and analyzed using data science, can help aid climate action plans by allowing individuals to visualize and conceptualize the amount of heat, electricity, and water they use and, hopefully, create behavior change. For my Senior Individualized Project, I developed an R Shiny web application using RStudio to track energy and water usage data from the dorms on Kalamazoo College. The application combines the idea of sustainability through consumption reduction with the practice of data science. The published application can be viewed from this URL: https://kcollegedata.shinyapps.io/SIP_folder/.
