Throughout this paper, literature is going to play an important role. While artists and art are not sufficient mediums for instituting change, the message that can be found in literary works such as William Wordsworth, Alan Patton, Joseph Conrad and other writers concerned with the corruption and evils found in society, can be uplifting and unifying. While this is a research paper designed to examine the role that capitalism and development policies have played in the world, it approached the subject from a decidedly philosophical and humanist perspective, and while this paper will suggest possible solutions under the auspices of the political science school of thought, it is much more a paper that deals with fundamental questions of humanity.
