Sexual norms are changing with the times. In particular, sexual scripts are growing and changing. In this current and ongoing study, interviews were conducted with young women aged 21-30. These interviews spanned five to seven hours. And asked an array of questions. Questions ranging from childhood to adulthood asking about sexual development. When the participant first started having sex, their sexual fantasies, and what sexual norms are a part of their lives. Participants were eight young adult women, ranging from ages 21-30, one was African American, one was Latina, and six were White. After interviewing participants, the interviews were transcribed and analyzed using the grounded theory approach. Through analyzing the young women's interviews it was found that cultural scripts from a strong Christian religious influence is strongly present in seven out of the ten women. They are taught to save themselves until marriage and to be pure and to be "gatekeepers." However, as they get older all participants started dating and forming their own interpersonal scripts about how they want to date and have sex. Leading to their desires, or intrapsychic scripts about what they want in their sexuality. Along with that, it was found that media was a form of sexual education and that sexual assault affected all but two female participants. These results are very preliminary and the study is ongoing and in the early stages.
