Intersectionality : Holocaust Inversion, Omar Barghouti, and Campus Antisemitism
Abstract
After reading the primary texts of prominent Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) advocate and co founder, Omar Barghouti, I quickly noted additional ways in which he references the Holocaust. Barghouti, alongside many other BDS proponents, often equates Israel's treatment of
Palestinians to Hitler's persecution of European Jews. This comparison reflects what many scholars refer to as "Holocaust inversion". What consequences, if any, result from using this analogy? How does it affect Jewish people and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East? Investigating these questions has given me the chance to pursue my passions for deepening my understanding of politics, the Middle East, and antisemitism. This senior project is the beginning of a lifelong journey dedicated to exposing and uprooting the scourge of antisemitism, wherever it insidiously hides.
