Abstract
This project presents an analysis of the Limon province in Costa Rica, with special care to the experience of the Afro-Caribbean community who remain a predominant majority in the region. Although many think of Costa Rica as a homogenous white country, there is a significant population of Afro-Caribbean peoples. Afro-Carib beans in Costa Rica are 8% of the population, however 16% of them reside in the Limon province along the Atlantic Coast. Why this concentration, compared with the other 6 provinces? Might this composition explain why Limon's development lags behind? Put differently, is racism a key explanation? Studying the works of various scholars, this research seeks to explore Limon 's underdevelopment and its impact on the Afro-Caribbean community's experience.
