For my Senior Individualized Project (SIP), I focused on some of the ways media represents intimacy. I accomplished this by deconstructing images that I have seen in the media and painting some of the moments that many people in today’s society idealize. One of my main objectives of my project was to allow the viewer to feel intimate in the space, which can happen in many different ways. For some people, it is simply a matter of being in the space where there are nude forms. For others, it is about projecting themselves onto or identifying with the figures in the paintings, and for others, it is a one direction attraction. The concept of intimacy in today’s society is very subjective and therefore I enjoy leaving my paintings up to the interpretation of the viewer. I began reflecting on media, human interactions, and my surroundings when I think about intimacy. The media today is able to make many people do many things and one of them is to idealize the human form, by continuously expanding their standards of beauty to different continents using distinctive mediums.
