My project was an exploration of myself, focusing on negative emotions. I did this through using the lenses of the rivers of the Greek Underworld. I painted five self portraits that each displayed a negative emotion represented by a chthonic river. This project used wood paneling and black gesso to give the frame a very stark dark contrast. I had a lot of negative emotions at the time and needed a safe method to explore them and this project was perfect. I am a pagan witch and it helped me explore a side of my faith that I previously had never focused on. To put the emotions that I was feeling into acrylic paint made them seem more real and helped me to actually deal with them instead of bottling them up.en_US
