Racial and Educational Disparities in Adherence to Safe Sleep Recommendations: Knowledge and Behavior in Kalamazoo
Abstract
Black infant mortality is a pertinent issue in Kalamazoo and
highlights structural inequities such as access to healthcare,
housing, education, and employment. In Kalamazoo, 3 times as
many Black infants die from sleep related deaths as White
infants (Michigan Public Health Institute, 2017), with 2012 to
2016 average of 5.6 deaths per 1,000 births (MDHHS).
