Language and Literacy Development in Nature Preschools
Abstract
There were 140 participants, and two school types (Nature,
Traditional). Assessments were done at two time points (Fall,
Spring). Tests were done on language and literacy: Letter
Name Knowledge (LNK), Letter Sound Knowledge (LSK),
and the Test of Preschool Early Literacy (TOPEL). There was
a significant difference between Fall and spring for both LNK
and LSK (p < .0005 for both) but no significant difference
between school type (p = .418, p = .645). TOPEL found no
significant differences between time (Fall, Spring) or school
(p = .511, p = .937).
