Abstract
N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) is an amino acid derivative that mimics the action of glutamate at the NMDA receptor (NMDAR). NMDAR is important in regulating synaptic plasticity, memory, and functional development of sensory brain circuits. Non-specific NMDAR antagonist can disrupt thalamocortical rhythms and induce delta and beta oscillatory patterns. Direct NMDAR antagonist manipulation can be achieved through intracerebroventricular injections. Our in vivo study investigated the selective antagonism of NR2C containing NMDAR sub-type through preliminary analysis of ketamine as a non-selective and non-competitive NMDAR antagonist.
