The Life and Legacy of Coach George Acker
George Acker is known on Kalamazoo College campus for the legacy he left as the tennis coach. In his 35 years of coaching at Kalamazoo College he won 35 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Conference Championships and seven National Championships. A feat very few, if no other coach, can claim accomplished. After attending the Kalamazoo College Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2013, where two of Coach Acker's team had been Inducted and a former player of his. I was curious to learn more about the man behind Kalamazoo College's prestigious tennis program. In my search for more information I was unable to find even an article about his life story. This led me to research the topic on my own and then eventually that research turned into my SIP. One quarter of research is too short to entirely capture the true legacy and impact of Coach Acker but hopefully will help you learn more about the man behind the legend.
